The Department of Public Welfare has revoked the operating license of Quadrangle Assisted Living Community in Haverford effective Friday.
The revocation comes as the result of a DPW investigation that revealed "gross incompetence, negligence and misconduct" on the part of the staff and management at the Quadrangle as well as their parent company, Sunrise Continuing Care.
In fact, in one of the cases, a victim's family reported the abuse to the assisted living center, yet no measures were taken by the home to rectify the situation.
Eventually hidden video of the alleged abuse was released that shined a light on the "misconduct." The video reportedly showed 78-year-old Lois McCallister being abused at the hands of care workers, police said.
“You need someone you can trust and someone you can rely upon and they abused that trust,” said Robert Mongeluzzi, Attorney for McCallister's family.
“The single most significant and important allegation you can make against a nursing home was made to the nursing home. They knew about it and they sat on it and they withheld it from the state and they broke the law. They broke the law.”
According to a letter issued to David Haddock, vice president and secretary of the Quadrangle, the company has 11 days from April 29 to appeal before the decision is made final.

"Our No. 1 concern, above all else, is the safety of our residents and we have cooperated closely with the DPW, and other regulatory and law enforcement authorities, as they have reviewed the actions of the three individuals at the Quadrangle. Recently, we filed a detailed operations plan with the DPW in response to the situation. We have now filed an appeal of the DPW order and we are hopeful that we can quickly resolve this unfortunate matter as we continue to fulfill our mission of delivering the best in quality care to seniors."
