Spring Snow Hits Poconos, Lehigh Valley

Old man river isn't ready to pack it in just yet

Yes, spring officially arrived over the weekend but winter-like weather isn’t quite ready to pack it in for the season.

An area of low pressure will bring a chilly and wet Wednesday. And this event will last into the early part of Thursday.

This is truly a case of it depends on where you live on what you'll get.

A Winter Storm Warning is up for the Poconos and a Winter Weather Advisory is posted for Berks, Bucks, Lehigh and Northampton counties.

All advisories begin at 2 a.m. Wednesday and extend through 6 a.m. Thursday.

Clouds should continue to be on the increase Tuesday night ahead of this system. With the precipitation arriving after midnight.

It's possible some wet snow/sleet could mix in with rain in the city south and east to start this event but for the most part it will be a raw and chilly rain for the city, south and east.

The further north you are, the better chance you have for snow -- and possibly accumulating snow.

Whatever type of precipitation you get, expect a slow Wednesday morning and evening commute for that matter.

This is what we’re thinking now in terms of snowfall totals (through Thursday morning):

Area:Expected Precipitation:
Philadelphia, south & eastMostly Rain
Parts of Berks & Bucks Cos.1 to 3 inches
Parts of Lehigh, Northampton & Berks Cos.2 to 5 inches
Poconos3 to 6 inches

Note that the higher you are in elevation the better chance you have of being closer to the higher end of the range.

We'll dry out later Thursday as high pressure builds in. But it is that high pressure that will reinforce the cold air mass in place. Temperatures should stay put in the 40s through the weekend.
