Spirit Out of the Sky

Vacationers likely are in poor spirit today if they'd planned to fly south from Atlantic City on Spirit Airlines.

The airline's pilots are on strike, and all of Saturday's flights have bee cancelled. Negotiators could not reach an agreement overnight.

The pilots union said Spirit pilots will not return to their jobs until a fair contract is reached. The pilots want pay comparable to their counterparts at Air Tran and Jet Blue.

Spirit is refunding fares for today's flights and offering $100 credits toward future flights.

Most of Spirit's flights originate on the East Coast, including Atlantic City International, and fly to Florida and destinations in the Caribbean.
