Break-In at Auto Tag Shop Days After Owner Was Stabbed 20 Times

As the owner of a Southwest Philadelphia auto tag shop who was stabbed more than 20 times continues to recover, another break-in occurred at his business.

At least one suspect broke in through the side door of Southwest Auto Tag Services along the 6200 block of Dicks Avenue near 63rd Street Saturday. Police have not yet revealed whether or not anything was stolen.

The break-in occurred two days after the owner of the shop was stabbed more than 20 times, though police don't believe the two incidents are related.

Lt. John Walker with the Southwest Detective Division said surveillance cameras captured a man — around 25 years old — walk into the store around 5:55 p.m. Thursday. He stayed for about two minutes.

During that short span, Walker said a bloody fight played out inside the store.

"It's a very violent scene, a lot of blood inside, a lot of overturned chairs, desks are moved around," Walker said.

A knife was plunged into the victim's head, arms, shoulders and side of the chest. He called 911 for help after the suspect left.

Before officers could get to him, however, they had to kick down the store's front door. Walker said it appears the suspect turned the lock when leaving.

When police found the victim, he had lost consciousness after losing so much blood.

The man was taken to Penn Presbyterian Trauma Center for treatment where he's listed in critical condition.

Detectives reviewed surveillance video from a gas station next door. The suspect was wearing a yellow shirt and dark colored pants.

"He closes the business around 6 o'clock, so the person knew exactly what they were doing and why they were coming in here," Walker said. "If anyone saw anybody running form this area ... please call our tipline."

No arrests have been made in the stabbing or Saturday's break-in. If you have any information, please call Philadelphia Police.
