Trapped Worker Rescued

Rescuers were trying to free the man.

Rescue squads pulled a trapped worker out of trench after working for nearly five hours to free him Thursday afternoon.

The man was installing a sprinkler system in the trench, which was about six to eight feet deep. The when the dirt caved in around him. That was about 1 p.m. on Chelsea Drive in Southampton, Burlington County.

Rescue squads from Southampton, Tabernacle, Mercy and Cherry Hill got him out just before 6 p.m. and were flying him to the hospital. He was conscious during the rescue effort and workers on the scene said they expected the man to make a full recovery.
