South Jersey Man Sentenced for Baseball Bat Attack

A southern New Jersey man who beat his mother's boyfriend in the head with an aluminum baseball bat has been sentenced to seven years in prison.

Brandon Prosser of National Park will have to serve nearly six years before he becomes eligible for parole. The 22-year-old had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault.

Gloucester County prosecutors say Prosser was 17 when the attack occurred in June 2009, but he was prosecuted as an adult.

Authorities have said the 52-year-old victim was sleeping on a sofa in Prosser's former Westville home when he was assaulted and sustained multiple skull fractures.

Prosecutors say Prosser blamed the victim for getting his mother addicted to cocaine and claimed the attack was the only way to keep the man away from her.
