South Jersey Man Sentenced After Fatally Shooting Daughter in Face

A southern New Jersey father convicted in a shooting that left his young daughter paralyzed is heading to prison.

A judge sentenced 28-year-old Byaer Johnson to 60 years in prison on Thursday. He was found guilty of attempted murder and other charges last month.

Prosecutors say the shooting occurred in January 2013, while Johnson was visiting with the then 11-year-old girl at her mother's Camden home.

Authorities say Johnson was sitting in the living room with the girl, her mother and the girl's stepfather when he revealed a handgun and said "we all must die.'' The Sicklerville man then walked toward his daughter, told her to shut up and shot her in the face at close range.

Johnson said in court that he's a victim, not an animal.
