Soldier Searches for Lucky Dog Tags

The soldier lost the tags in Saturday's snowstorm

Colin Senavitis says he is lucky.

After coming under enemy fire in February while serving as a soldier in the Afghanistan war, he almost lost his life. Instead he was one of the fortunate few to come home alive, after only being hit in his ankle and hip.

“I could not have my foot or be dead, I am not complaining,” said Senavitis.

Colin and family said it was a personal charm he carried with him for years that he believes saved his life on that fateful day. He was wearing his grandfather’s dog tags from World War II when he was almost killed.

“I think it did save him, like you know, I know my dad was looking out for him,” said Lynne Senavitis.

Colin’s grandfather, Arthur Carter, who fought in the Invasion of Normandy in 1944, passed on the tags to Colin so they would always bring him good luck. Colin took to the tags with him when he enlisted in the war.

“He’d watch out for me any way, but wanted to have them for good luck just to remember him,” said Senavitis.

But last Saturday Colin’s luck changed when he lost the tags during the huge snowstorm that hit the Philadelphia area.

He believes he may have lost them at the Lincoln Motel in Trevose where he was hanging out with friends or at the Wawa convenience store across the street.

Senavitis desperately hopes some will see the lucky charm and return the tags immediately.

“I’d really like them back.  It’s important to me. I’d like to hand them down when I have a son,” said Senavitis.
