Snowball Shooter to Be Sentenced

It's sentencing day for the man convicted of killing a Philadelphia teen after a snowball fight.

Jose Omar Mendez, 26, faces 10 to 20 years in prison for the shooting death of 15-year-old Teven Rutledge.

Rutledge accidentally hit Mendez during a birthday snowball fight with friends on Feb. 24, 2008. The man then went home, grabbed an unlicensed gun and came back to shoot the teen in the side of the head, authorities said. Rutledge died a day later.

Prosecutors argued for first-degree murder, but a jury convicted the man of manslaughter.

Mendez's attorney argued he was simply defending himself after the teen allegedly pulled a knife.
