Snowy Crash Leads to Teen's Death

A 17-year-old girl is dead after her car skidded in the snow and crashed head on with an SUV on Route 309 in Tamaqua.

Police say the girl was ejected from the vehicle in the crash around 8 a.m. Sunday and suffered blunt force trauma to the head and lower extremities.

Officials didn't release the girl's name but said she was from Nesquehoning.

The driver of the SUV was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries. Another vehicle was involved in the crash. It's unclear if people in that vehicle were injured.

The crash closed a stretch of Route 309 for about 2 hours.

Tamaqua is about 35 miles south of Wilkes-Barre.
