A school district employee has been arrested after police say she had sex with an underage student.
Smyrna police spokesman Cpl. Brian M Donner says 38-year-old Karen Brooks was arrested Thursday and charged with rape in the fourth degree and sexual intercourse with a victim under 18. The News Journal reports Brooks was an employee of the Smyrna Middle School.
Police were notified of an inappropriate relationship involving Brooks and a 17-year-old male student in May. Donner says an investigation revealed that Brooks had sex with the juvenile several times. Police believe the acts did not occur on school district property.
The investigation is ongoing. It's unclear if Brooks has a lawyer.
