Six Recent Deadly Overdoses Bring Delaware Total to 133 for the Year

The number of drug overdose deaths in Delaware this year has risen to 133.

WDEL reported Wednesday that six people died in the past five days from what officials suspect were overdoses. Two were in Kent County and four were in New Castle County.

Delaware health department spokeswoman Jill Fredel said the number appears to dwarf traffic fatalities. There have been less than 50 of those.

She said the state along with the country is facing "an incredible epidemic."

Meanwhile, the state has been increasing its use of Nalaxone, the medication that can reverse an overdose. In the first half of this year, state officials said the antidote was administered to 866 people.
