Shots Fired at Car With Women, Baby Inside During Road Rage Incident

Police are on the hunt for a suspect who they say fired shots at a car with two women and a baby inside during a road rage incident in Center City.

The 20-year-old woman, who did not want to be identified, says she, her sister and her 4-month-old niece were returning from a baby shower on Saturday around 7:30 p.m.

As her sister drove on 4th and Lombard Streets, the woman says a man inside a red vehicle began to harass them.

According to police, the suspect tried to pass the women on a one-way, single lane road. When he couldn't, the driver allegedly tailgated the women and honked for several minutes.

After following the women for 10 blocks, police say the suspect then pulled out a gun and opened fire.

"As soon as I turned around, I could see a gun pointing," the woman said. "I didn't get a chance to say 'duck.' I didn't get a chance to say anything."

Police say the suspect fired two shots before fleeing the scene. One bullet struck the passenger side mirror while another went through the back window.

Fortunately, neither the sisters nor the baby were hurt.

Detectives have not yet released a description of the suspect but say he was driving a Red Mitsubishi Eclipse with a document on the back window, which was captured on surveillance video. If you have any information on this incident, please call Philadelphia Police.
