Suspect in Murder of Ex-Girlfriend Dead After 7 Hour Long Standoff in Germantown

The man allegedly fired at least one shot at responding police officers from the rooftop of the home and one shot from inside the home through an opening.

The suspect sought in the deadly shooting of his ex-girlfriend is dead after killing himself during a seven hour-long standoff with police in Philadelphia's Germantown neighborhood, police said.

The 32-year-old man, whose identity has yet to be released, barricaded himself inside a home about the 1300 block of Haines Street around 6 p.m. Tuesday. Police said he fired several shots at officers before holing up in the rowhome.

"He discharged a weapon three different times. When this began he was on the roof. At least one round was fired at officers," Capt. Sekou Kinebrew said.

Police believe he is the man who shot and killed a 25-year-old woman outside her home on the 1200 block of Sanger Street around 1:15 p.m. Tuesday. The woman has been described as his ex-girlfriend.

The man then fled in his car but crashed at Hunting Park and Broad Street before fleeing the scene on foot, police said.

The SWAT Team was called in to negotiate with the man. Kinebrew would not discuss the man's demands. Around 1:30 a.m. Wednesday, SWAT officers entered the home after hearing a gunshot.

Kinebrew said they found the man dead in the living room from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

Both deaths remain under investigation. A motive for the woman's killing was not immediately released.
