Officials say “a staff shooting death” occurred this weekend at a federal prison in southern New Jersey.

Foul play is not suspected in Saturday's incident at the Fairton Federal Correctional Institution in Fairfield Township. But the name of the person killed has not been disclosed.

Federal Bureau of Prisons spokesman Ed Ross tells The Press of Atlantic City that the shooting occurred “on institution property, but outside the secure perimeter.” Further details were not disclosed.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
