Security Guard Faces Murder Charges in Killing of Philadelphia Bar Manager

Edward Morgan faces murder charges in shooting inside Sharon's Little Spot

A corner bar security guard shot and killed a manager after getting into a fight at the establishment in Philadelphia's Germantown section.

Officers arrived at Sharon's Little Spot along Boyer Street just before 11 p.m. Monday and found the 44-year-old manager with three gunshot wounds. He died a short time later at Albert Einstein Medical Center.

The manager -- identified as Christopher Johnson of Rugby Street -- and the security guard- identified as Edward Morgan of Mercy Street -- got into an argument in a back room, said police.

"It turned into a physical altercation," said Philadelphia Police Chief Inspector Scott Small.

The 28-year-old guard met officers as they responded to the scene and said he shot Johnson during an argument.

"We are getting preliminary information that the 44-year-old shooting victim... may have been attacking the 28-year-old security guard at the time of the shooting," said Small.

Several other employees and customers were in the bar at the time but none were hurt, said investigators.

A judge denied Morgan bail early Wednesday while arraigning him on murder and weapons charges. It was unclear if Morgan hired an attorney.
