Security Changes at NJ Marathon

NJ Marathon ups security after Boston bombings

Organizers of the New Jersey Marathon say they plan to beef up security because of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Executive Race Director Joe Gigas says all bags and backpacks will be banned, spectator access at the start and finish lines will be limited, and some parking areas will be closed.

Gigas says more bomb sniffing dogs will be on hand to check buses and more security personnel will monitor the race.

The May 5 marathon will start in Oceanport and end in Long Branch.

Damage caused by Superstorm Sandy to boardwalks also means this is the first time the race will only be run on roadways.
