2 Men Drown at Sea Isle City Beaches in Separate Incidents

Officials identified the first victim and are withholding the identity of the second until his family is notified.

Two men drowned at beaches in Sea Isle City, New Jersey in two separate incidents this week.

The first incident occurred Monday around 2:45 p.m. Sea Isle City Police officers responded to the 86th Street beach for a report of a medical emergency in the water. When they arrived they found lifeguards and Good Samaritans performing CPR on Brian Zwaan, 58, of Berwyn, Pennsylvania.

Zwaan was taken to the Cape Regional Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 4:40 p.m. Officials determined he died from head and neck injuries complicated by drowning.

The second incident occurred Wednesday around 1:40 p.m. at the 59th Street beach. Witnesses say a 74-year-old man was knocked over by a large wave and remained underwater. Nearby swimmers and the Sea Isle Beach Patrol found the man and pulled him up on the beach. They then performed CPR on him with help from police officers.

The man was taken to the Atlantic City Medical Center by helicopter. He was later pronounced dead Thursday morning. Officials are withholding his identity until his family is notified.

Both deaths were ruled accidental.
