Scorpion on Bananas Stings Grocery Store Worker

A Pennsylvania man is recovering after he was stung by a scorpion that hitched a ride on a shipment of Chiquita Bananas imported from Honduras.

Giant spokesman Chris Brand told NBC10 that a worker at the Giant food store in Havertown, Pennsylvania was unloading bananas when he was stung by the scorpion.

Brand wrote in a statement that the company regrets the incident and has taken immediate steps to prevent it from happening again. The unidentified worker was treated and released from Delaware County Memorial Hospital. The worker is doing “okay” though he’s still experiencing pain in his hand, according to Brand.

Brand says Giant officials will double check all banana shipments as a precaution. Chiquita officials say they won’t import bananas from the same Honduran farm ever again.
