Middle School Lock Down Lifted After Police Find Paintball Gun

Police say a 14-year-old student brought his paintball gun to school. No one was threatened with it, according to investigators.

A lock down at a Salem County school has been lifted after police say they found a paintball gun in a student's locker. It happened this morning at Penns Grove Middle School on 351 Maple Avenue.

The school superintendent told NBC10 a parent of a student reported that she saw a few boys walking into the school with what she believed to be either a gun or pellet gun. The school was placed on lock down as a precaution.

Officials notified parents and began searching all rooms and lockers inside the school around 7:45 a.m. Police say they eventually found a paintball gun in a 14-year-old student's locker. The boy, who was taken into custody, told police he received the gun as a birthday gift and wanted to show it to his friends. Investigators say the gun was never used and no one was threatened with it.
