School Gunman's Body Found in Woods

An armed man who prompted a lockdown at a central Pennsylvania elementary school fatally shot himself in some nearby woods.

Troopers from Hollidaysburg say an autopsy Sunday confirmed 23-year-old Brandon Newton's death was a suicide. Newton's body was found by search crews about 5 p.m. Saturday.

Two days earlier, Newton prompted a lockdown as Frankstown Elementary School in the Hollidaysburg Area School District when he threatened to harm himself and was seen running into some woods near the school.

Nobody at the school was threatened or harmed, and the lockdown was lifted though police were unable to find Newton later that evening.

Police had obtained an arrest warrant for Newton on charges that he stole a firearm.

His body was found in some woods between his home and a nearby sportsman's association.
