A local school is investigating an email with private student information that was somehow sent to hundreds of students. The email, entitled “Important: Class Rank” exposed the GPAs of students at Hatboro-Horsham High School as well as their rank. The email states it was compiled with the help of several esteemed staff members. The school district superintendent tells NBC10 no administrator released the document however.

“We’ve talked to some of our students,” said Dr. Curtis Griffin, Superintendent of the Hatboro-Horsham School District. “They’re saying a senior prank. Now we’re going to look at and find out if the system was hacked."

“I got a 3.2,” said Evan Rostron, a senior at the school. “But students with a lower GPA, others might make fun of them.”

Many parents of students at the school say they aren’t happy about the leak, even if their kids are doing well.

“I really wasn’t too concerned,” said parent Beth Saverio. “But other info someone would have access to is a concern.”

Parents also say grade point averages are a private matter between teachers, students and their parents.

“It’s troublesome it was able to be released,” said parent Jack O’Donnell. “I trust the school is on top of it.”

Federal and local agents will confiscate computers and undergo a full-scale investigation.

“There’s no evidence yet but if our system was hacked, it’s potentially a felony,” said Dr. Griffin. “If a mistake was made by an employee, it will be addressed in accordance with policies and procedures.”
