Save the Clock Tower

The federal government is handing over $5.6 million to fix Independence Hall’s leaking clock tower.

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar announced the gift Wednesday, which is part of a national park project stimulus package.

Part of the money will repair water damage in the tower and replace the clock faces with glass that's less likely to crack, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The rest of the funds will be used to repair the Rose Garden cobblestone walk and to install utility meters in park buildings.
