Salmonella in Raw Milk Linked to Kutztown Farm

Pa. State Department of Agriculture is warning consumers who purchased raw milk from Norman Z. and Edith B. Sauder in Kutztown to discard products immediately

If you purchased raw milk or cheese made from raw milk from Norman Z. and Edith B. Sauder Farms in Kutztown, you maybe at risk for Salmonella, according to the State Departments of Agriculture and Health.

Consumers were advised Tuesday about the potential risks of the products sold at the Berks County farm. Health officials say on April 2, an independent lab confirmed the raw milk products tested positive for Salmonella. The date code on those products were from March 25.

The Department of Health urges consumers who purchased products there to discard or return to the farm immediately.

Until further testing can be completed, all raw milk and raw milk cheese production has been stopped at the Kutztown facility. The Sauder's farm must pass a state inspection before they can start selling products again.

Symptoms of Salmonella include diarrhea, vomiting, headache and abdominal cramps. Health officials say symptoms typically appear between six hours and four days after being infected.

The Department of Health says there have been no cases of illnesses linked to this farm. You can reach the department at 877-PA HEALTH.
