Sabina Was “Perfect Prey” for Murder Suspect: Prosecutors

Trial opens in rape, killing of NoLibs waitress

A prosecutor says a petite Philadelphia waitress raped and strangled nearly two years ago was the “perfect prey” for the then-18-year-old on trial in her killing.

Donte Johnson, now 20, is on trial in the 2010 rape and killing of 20-year-old Sabina Rose O'Donnell in the city's Northern Liberties neighborhood.

Johnson's attorney said in his opening statement Tuesday that O'Donnell's death isn't a case of first-degree murder and a defense expert would testify about his client's ability to make voluntary statements to police.

Investigators say Johnson told police he killed O'Donnell after she screamed when he tried to steal her bike early on the morning of June 2, 2010.

O'Donnell's nude body was found in a vacant lot the next day.
