Gunman in Custody After Barricade Situation: Police

A man was taken into custody after a barricade situation in Haddon Township, NJ placed an elementary school on lockdown.

Haddon Township Police responded shortly before noon to a home on the 400 block of Addison Avenue for a report of a suicidal, intoxicated man who had access to firearms. When they arrived they discovered the man was barricaded alone inside the home, according to investigators.

A SWAT team surrounded the home and Strawbridge Elementary School, located about a block away at 307 Strawbridge Avenue, was placed on lockdown shortly after 2:30 p.m.

During the standoff, the man allegedly fired several shots inside the home. He also shot at a tactical robot police had sent inside, according to investigators.

Police were eventually able to remove the man from the home around 3:20 p.m. No one was hurt during the incident and the lockdown at the nearby school was lifted.

The man was taken for a medical evaluation. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
