South Philadelphia Man Beats Ex-Girlfriend's Dog With Baseball Bat: SPCA

A South Philadelphia man faces assault and animal cruelty charges for allegedly striking his ex-girlfriend’s dog with a baseball bat.

PSPCA humane officers said that Tuesday’s attack left the dog with a severe injury.

After the attack, officers tracked down 40-year-old Andrew Wallace, of S 10th Street, at his place of employment and arrested him on first-degree animal cruelty and related charges. Philadelphia Police also charged Wallace with simple assault on his ex.

PSPCA CEO Jerry Buckley called the attack “heinous.”

“Often, links have been drawn between the abuse of animals and violence against people; this seems to be the case here,” said Buckley.
