SEPTA Spends Stimulus Money, Creates Jobs

The transit agency that serves Philadelphia and its suburbs has spent most of the $191 million it received in stimulus funding.

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported Monday that the Southeastern Pennsylvania Transportation Authority has spent about $130 million in federal funds received under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.

SEPTA data show the investment put more than 2,000 people to work on 32 projects including refurbishment of trolley lines and the addition of 40 new electric-diesel hybrid buses.

The work should be finished by December 2011 with a makeover for a subway station on the Broad Street Line.
