The SEPTA Police received a report of an armed man on a Broad Street subway train around 7:24 on Saturday night.
The train was held when it arrived at the Erie Avenue station and met by Septa officers.
The suspect headed toward the stairway leading to the street and pointed his gun at an officer who shot the gunman in the chest.
The man was taken to Temple University Hospital. There is no word yet on his condition.
No officers were hurt during the incident. Police continue to investigate.
