SEPTA Bus Hit in Pizza Shop Tip-Jar Theft Getaway

Man stole tip jar from Center City pizza shop then crashed into bus

Police say a man stole a tip jar from a Center City Philadelphia pizza shop then crashed into a SEPTA bus while trying to get away.

Authorities say the man grabbed the jar containing about $30 in cash from 13th Street Pizza on the 200 block of South 13th street around 2 a.m. Tuesday, reports the Inquirer.

The man only made it about a block before crashing into the back of a SEPTA bus at 13th and Walnut streets.

The bus was pushed into a utility pole by the car, which then struck a fire hydrant. The suspect fled on foot.

The crash put a traffic light at the intersection out of commission and it was still not working for rush hour traffic Tuesday morning, reports the Inquirer.

The bus driver was transported to a hospital for observation. There were no passengers on the bus, reports the Inquirer.

Police are still searching for the car's driver. He is described as a 40-year-old black man, about 6-foot, 1-inch tall, wearing a gray sweatshirt, police say.
