Suspension Lifted at Philadelphia Casino

The Pennsylvania Harness Racing Commission has lifted a suspension at Harrah's Philadelphia Racetrack and Casino, but an agency spokeswoman says the season won't begin as scheduled March 8 because of continuing cold, snowy weather.

Commission spokeswoman Samantha Krepps said that the suspension was lifted after track officials provided information about the racing surface, the paddock and how it promotes racing.

The commission issued the suspension in January after drivers complained about the track's condition, especially after a November crash  in which a driver was thrown from his sulky and trampled by another horse.

Krepps says it's unclear when the racing season will begin.

A casino spokeswoman did not immediately respond to a call and email seeking comment Sunday.
