Rescue Raises Thousands to Save Abandoned Kitten

Ruby was hit by a car & abandoned

UPDATE: Thanks in part to NBC Philadelphia’s faithful viewers Ruby received two life-saving surgeries Thursday afternoon. At first it was thought Ruby would only need one procedure but her internal injuries were worse than first thought and a second surgery to repair a punctured abdomen was needed.

On Friday morning, a vet tech told PAL that he is astonished at how well Ruby is doing. He says she is maintaining her body temperature, sitting up and purring and seems comfortable. Infection, however, is still a very real threat and Ruby will continue to be treated and closely monitored.

Doctors at the Veterinary Referral Center cut their fees in half and provided a recovery room for free, according to the folks at PAL.

A 5-month-old kitten that was abandoned and hit by a car needs the public’s help to live to see the weekend.

Ruby the cat is currently at the Pet Adoption and Lifecare Society with a broken pelvis where she was dropped off Wednesday.

She is such bad shape that she must receive life-saving surgery by Thursday or the cat will be euthanized because fractured bones are currently blocking her bowel, PALS said.

If she receives surgery by Thursday she should be able to recover and live a good life, the shelter said.

“This is the sweetest kitten, purring nonstop through the pain, eyes pleading to make it stop,” PALS said in statement. “She is thin, her gut is full of little bones presumably from the small animals she has been forced to eat in order to survive.”

They have already received many donations and a veterinarian has volunteered to donate primary care and radiography but PALS must raise $2,500 ASAP for Ruby’s surgery.

You can help by sending an e-mail to info@palspets.org with the amount you plan to donate.
