Rowan University President Gets $175K Raise

Just days before he's due to be inaugurated, Rowan University's president has received a $175,000 raise.

The South Jersey Times reports that the school's Board of Trustees unanimously approved the salary boost for President Ali Houshmand on Wednesday. The raise increases his annual salary from $375,000 to $550,000.

Board officials say the raise was spurred by changes at the school caused by the state's recent reconfiguration of its higher education system.

They wanted to ensure that Houshmand's salary was comparable to those paid to presidents at similar universities.

Rowan gained a research designation under the restructuring and acquired the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey's School of Osteopathic Medicine in Stratford.

Houshmand is due to be inaugurated on Sept. 20.
