Fire Damages Rowan University Dorm Rooms

No students hurt as fire burns in Mimosa Hall

A fire in a mostly freshman dormitory at Rowan University damaged several rooms but didn't cause any injuries.

School spokeswoman Patricia Quigley says the fire was reported in a first-floor room in Mimosa Hall on the Glassboro campus around 11:15 a.m. Friday. The residence hall was evacuated as the university alerted students via text alerts.

Quigley says the fire started in one room, which sustained fire, water and smoke damage. Two other rooms in the same suite sustained water and smoke damage.

Students who reside on the second through fourth floors were allowed to return to their rooms. First-floor students were sent to the Mimosa Hall Lounge.

There is no word on what caused the fire.
