A tractor-trailer crashed this morning causing the big rig to overturn, spilling scrap metal onto the roadway -- including onto a woman's car -- and causing traffic headaches for rush-hour commuters on two busy highways.
Vernon Smith, 44, of Egg Harbor, N.J. was driving the open-topped big rig filled with scrap metal along the Schuylkill Expressway (I-76) westbound ramp to U.S. Route 202 southbound past Gulph Road in King of Prussia, Pa. when the truck tipped onto the barrier around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
Smith's truck’s load of metal spilled onto Route 202 southbound and onto the Gulph Road onramp to 202 south, blocking the roadway for more than four hours.
A large piece ot that metal landed on Janice Storm's 2004 Toyota Corolla trapping her in the car, according to police.
As SkyForce10 hovered overhead, crews could be seen working to extract the 46-year-old Lansdale, Pa. woman from her car. Storm was taken to Paoli Hospital with serious injuries, according to police.
Smith suffered minor injuries that didn't require hospitalization, according to police.
The ramp to Route 202 south from Gulph road closed, as was 202 South and the ramp from I-76 west.
As of 8 am. debris remained on the roadway and both the ramp and roadway remained closed. By 9 a.m. progress was made to clean up the mess.

By 10 a.m. the truck was cleared off the ramp and traffic began moving on the ramp again but Route 202 remained closed.
The exact cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The scene was finally cleared and traffic began flowing again just before 11 a.m.
