Caught on Camera: Robber Beats Man Unconscious

Man walking to meet friends awoke the next morning bloody with broken bones

The beating was so violent, police had to edit down the surveillance footage that captured a man beating another man unconscious and stealing his money in Old City Oct. 2.

“At first I was frustrated and then felt lucky,” the man, who we are not naming, told NBC Philadelphia. “I could walk and talk. I wasn't killed.”

At about 3 a.m. Saturday Oct. 2, the 33-year-old victim was walking from a McFadden’s bar to meet friends when a man asked him for directions on the 400 block of Willow Street. The stranger then beat him unconscious, breaking his nose, his cheekbone and causing concussions and various fractures.

The victim only remembers the first punch, but police who watched the unedited surveillance video say the violence of the beating “was enough to turn your stomach.”

“I woke the next day, no money, wallet next to me,” the victim said.

Police think the attacker may frequent the area, as many local bar patrons have seen the man before. But no official description of the attacker was immediately available.

Police say that if anyone sees this man, do not approach him. Call 911 or the Philadelphia Police Department’s Central Detective Division at 215-686-3093.

“I’m sure if it happened once, he’ll try to do it again,” said the victim.
