Missing Woman's Body Found in Delaware River

The 44-year-old mother fell into the river Sunday.

National Park Fire Department Crews found the body of the woman who fell into the Delaware River two days ago Tuesday morning.

The body of 44-year-old Maribel Gonzalez was found about 50 yeard off the shore of National Park, New Jersey in the Delaware River.

The U.S. Coast Guard halted the search for the New York woman who fell off a life raft late Sunday afternoon.

Rescue crews spent hours Sunday afternoon and evening searching for Maribel Gonzalez of the Richmond Hill section of Queens, N.Y., who went missing in the water near the Municipal Boat Ramp in West Deptford, N.J.

By Monday morning the search had turned from a rescue mission to a recovery operation, as the woman is not expected to be alive. At about 11:30 a.m. Monday the Coast Guard called off the search.

Gonzalez , 44, had been boating in the river and the boat ran out of gas, according to the National Park Fire Department.

She and another boater both got in the raft to make the trip to shore to get gas. During that trip, the woman fell into the river. The man tried to help her, but couldn't.

The man continued to shore and called 911 for help. Rescue crews have been out on the water and in the air since about 5:30 p.m.

One member of the rescue crew told NBC Philadelphia that the current on the Delware is incredibly swift.
