Rip Currents Lead to Jersey Shore Rescues

Rip currents are keeping lifeguards busy at the Jersey shore.

Two women in their 20s were swimming near M Street beach in Seaside Park when they got into trouble Monday afternoon.

Seaside Heights lifeguard Capt. Rob Connor tells the Asbury Park Press his lifeguards were getting ready to leave for the day when the women were spotted in distress.

Connor says the lifeguards reached the women, who were about a half mile away.

Connor says it's a dangerous time of year for swimmers because northeast winds turn up the surf.

Seaside Heights lifeguards rescued two swimmers on Friday.
