New Jersey's Rider University Ups Security Following Dorm Room Gropings

Rider University in Mercer County reminded students to lock their doors, even after police arrested the man wanted in several dorm room assaults.

Jon Cannon is accused of inappropriately touching two female Rider University students while they slept in their dorm rooms..

Lawrence police spokesman Lt. Joseph Amodio told NJ.com that Jon Cannon was arrested Friday. His bail was set at $130,000 and it wasn't known Saturday if he's retained an attorney.

The 24-year-old Hamilton man is charged with criminal sexual contact for allegedly touching a student's breast on Sept. 27, and harassment/offensive touching for allegedly touching another student's shoulder Sept. 11. In both instances, authorities say Canon fled when the women woke up. Cannon also faces burglary charges in both incidents.

Both students' dorm rooms were unlocked, and it's not known how Cannon allegedly entered the buildings. School officials have said he is not a Rider student.

The university put out a statement that said they would increase public safety presence on campus.
