Reward Offered in Murder of South Philly Woman

Family of a woman found dead in a vacant lot are offering a reward for the capture of the murderer

The family of a south Philadelphia woman found slain in a vacant lot last spring has posted a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person responsible for her death.

Twenty-three-year-old Iris Tyson was found dead May 17 in the lot in the Point Breeze section, a week after she was reported missing after leaving the house to buy a Mother's Day card.

The Philadelphia Daily News reported Monday that the $2,000 reward is being administered by the Citizens Crime Commission.

Her father, Joe Tyson, said relatives wanted to get the perpetrator behind bars “so another family doesn't have to go through this.”

A benefit is planned Oct. 1 at the Woodland String Band clubhouse in south Philadelphia to raise money for the reward.
