Reward Offered in Sex Assault of 9-Year Old

Girl was abducted by a naked man in her Feltonville home & sexually assaulted last week, police say

Philadelphia Police announced a $10,000 reward Thursday for information leading to the arrest of a naked masked man who allegedly abducted a little girl from her Feltonville home last week, took her to an alley and sexually assaulted her.

"We obviously want this guy off the street," Special Victims Capt. John Darby said while announcing the award at a press conference Thursday morning.

The alleged assault happened last Wednesday on the 4600 block of D Street.

"We try to appeal to the public in every way we can and that includes putting money on the head of this particular perpetrator," Darby said. "This community doesn't deserve a situation like this."

According to police, around 4:30 a.m. on June 13, the man got into the home through the front door, which was unlocked. The victim was asleep in a second-floor bedroom with other siblings. She told police she woke up to a man touching her leg.

He was standing over her naked with a green mask on, according to the victim. She told police he took her to an alley in her Feltonville neighborhood and assaulted her, then took her to a nearby school yard and told her to go home.

Investigators say the parents did hear commotion in the home, discovered their daughter was missing and called police.

She returned home about two hours after she was taken, police said.

The little girl described the man as a thin black male about 6-feet-tall, according to police.

"We are concerned that in fact this individual could strike again... we're in a seasonal cycle that is ripe for this types of intrusions into properties. So we have concerns that this might occur again.

Darby says the reward money came half from the mayor's reward fund and the other half from the Fraternal Order of Police.

NBC10 had a reporter and camera crew on the scene this morning when the 9-year-old returned back home -- running down the sidewalk in her bare feet and then up the front steps of her home to hug her dad as police and family members were gathered on the porch. We're not showing any of that video to protect the child's identity.

Police were reviewing surveillance video from several businesses in the area. The girl was treated at St. Christopher's Hospital where she underwent several medical tests.
