Retired Slippery Rock Professor Killed After Falling Through Glass Door

A retired university professor has died after falling through the glass door of a sandwich shop.

Authorities say 69-year-old Glen Brunken fell at the Bob’s Sub & Sandwich Shop in downtown Slippery Rock about noon Monday and severely cut his neck. He was semi-conscious when paramedics arrived and was later flown to a Pittsburgh hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Brunken was an art professor at Slippery Rock University from 1969 to 2009, when he retired.

The accident is under investigation.

Slippery Rock University's art department organized a tribute to Brunken back in 2009. Former students of Brunken helped create a postcard that honored the professor and his 40 years of teaching.

"His passion for art-making and integrity have had a huge impact on my life," said former student and SRU assistant professor of art Katherine Mickle. "I find him inspiring on many levels."

According to the school website, Brunken's art has been exhibited and collected internationally. The school also says he received a master's degree in art from Wichita State University, specializing in abstract expression.
