Residents: NJ Bridge Construction Causing Problems

Residents say a project to raise the Bayonne Bridge 60 feet has caused vibrating windows, noise, poor air quality and cracks in their homes.

About 50 people outlined their problems with the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey project during a meeting with local officials Monday night.

Some residents say the Port Authority has ignored their complaints.

George Lavelle, who lives blocks away from the bridge, held up an air conditioner filter that was stained black. He says air pollution from the construction work caused it.

The Jersey Journal reports that Mayor Jimmy Davis says his administration will allow the Port Authority to close up to three streets in the area at once for construction work. He says this will help speed up the work.
