Rescue for Rudy

Local community races to help save the life of a dog.

He can't read, but Rudy's gotten over 100 get-well cards from the community. Rudy is a police canine for the West Brandywine Police Department. The dog has cancer and a 50% chance of making it with chemotherapy. Who pays that bill?

Treatment for the unexpected illness has been costly. Already, nearly $5,000 in medical bills have accumulated, according to the Daily Local News of West Chester. One of the unit's police officers is making some payments out of his own pocket.

West Brandywine Township Manager forwarded the surgery bills on to the District Attorney's office. If the DA's office can't cover the cost, they township will pick up the tab.

More money is needed to cover the chemotherapy that Rudy needs. The veterinarian who is treating Rudy has a foundation that will allow them to help offset the cost.

Community members have also set up a fund to cover Rudy's chemotherapy bills. Donations can be sent to:

Rudy also has two sons (Donner and Blitzen) that will start K9 training and may succeed their Dad depending on how Rudy responds to chemo treatments, according to NBC10's Doug Shimell.
