Remorseful Gang Member Sentenced for Slaying

A Trenton gang member who killed a man on orders from a gang kingpin has been sentenced to 13 years in state prison.

But the sentence handed down this week to 28-year-old Richard Jenkins is shorter than what was called for in his plea agreement. The judge cited the Trenton resident's cooperation with authorities and apparent remorse for his actions.

Jenkins pleaded guilty to manslaughter and racketeering charges stemming from the 2005 shooting death of Otis Jones. Sixteen members of the Gangster Killer Bloods gang eventually pleaded guilty to various criminal charges stemming from the shooting and related investigations.
