Remembering NJ Officers Who Fell to Death

Police officers in Jersey City have gathered to remember two officers who died tragically after falling into the Hackensack River on Christmas Day in 2005.

The Jersey Journal
reports that law enforcement officials gathered to remember officers Shawn Carson and Robert Nguyen Thursday night.

The pair was regulating traffic on the Lincoln Highway Bridge between Kearny and Jersey City after a wooden arm to block traffic had broken. They were unaware that the drawbridge had been raised on the foggy night and their truck plunged into the water as they turned to leave.

The bridge was renamed the Shawn Carson and Robert Nguyen Memorial Bridge in 2007.

Emergency Services Unit Lt. Vincent Glenn says that the officers were doing the job they loved helping the community when they died.
