Recycling Facility Fire

Officials are hoping rain will help extinguish a stubborn fire at the Long Branch Recycling Facility.

Firefighters contained the four-alarm blaze in a 150-foot-by-75-foot pile of brush on Wednesday. But it continued to smolder throughout the night.

Public Works chief Fred Migliaccio told the Asbury Park Press the recycling center was not damaged and no one was injured.

The fight to fully extinguish the fire, though, continued.

“We’re going to be here a long time,” Migliaccio told the paper.

Neighbors told the paper that heavy smoke from the fire smelled like a camp fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
