Spring in December? Record-Breaking Warmth Hits Region

Winter is less than two weeks away yet you wouldnโ€™t know it based on how warm it is in the Philadelphia region right now.

Temperatures reached 71 degrees Sunday, breaking the old record of 65. This was only a day after the region broke another record with a high of 69 Saturday. The average temperature for this time of year is 46 degrees.

We may also hit record-breaking temperatures Monday as well with an expected high of 70 degrees. With that warmth will come some rain late Monday night. There will be a slight drop in temperatures Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday with temperatures in the low 60s and high 50s before more seasonable temperatures move in Friday with a high of 48.

The warm weather was a big change for those participating in this yearโ€™s Santa Run in Philadelphia Saturday. The only one who was having trouble coping with the warmth was an ice sculptor who had to work much faster than normal.

โ€œMy strategy is to work quickly,โ€ he said. โ€œIn weather like this you donโ€™t have to do too much polishing. Ice will polish itself.โ€
