Philadelphia Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey is talking to Chicago’s mayor-elect about taking the position of police commissioner in the windy city.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, Ramsey has told associates that he would “love to come home to run the Chicago Police Department.”
Sixty-three-year-old Ramsey is the former head of Chicago’s community policing program, but left to work as the police chief in Washington D.C. in1998, until he took the commissioner’s position in Philadelphia in 2008.
Chicago Mayor-elect Rahm Emanuel said last week that he was considering Ramsey, as well as Chicago’s Deputy Police Supt. Harvey Radney, reports the Sun-Times.
A source close to Ramsey told the Sun-Times that Ramsey “loves Philadelphia” and “has a strong relationship” with Mayor Michael Nutter, and probably won’t apply for the job unless Emanuel can assure him it’s his.
Ramsey had his start in the police force in Chicago, where he began as a cadet and served on the Chicago Police force for 27 years, according to the Sun-Times.
