It's a battle that's been going on for two years.
Rabbi Chaim Abadi has thousands of bags of religious items buried at two sites, in Lakewood and Jackson, NJ, according to the Asbury Park Press.
The Rabbi says the items are "shaimos," which according to several jewish websites means they are holy writings and objects that are not allowed to be thrown out and must be given a rabbi's blessing.
But the Asbury Park Press reports that the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection says they should not be there and they want them removed. One of the dump sites is near an water well and the agency says they are scared of water contamination.
According to the newspaper, a county judge agrees and has given Rabbi Abadi 30 days to remove the items or else he'll have to pay $1K for each day they stay buried there.
